The municipal Rieger Park is situated in Vinohrady, a quarter of Prague, and has an area of 11 hectares. This park, named after an important Czech politician, belongs to the most popular places providing an opportunity to have a sit-down in cosy pubs with a breathtaking view of Prague Castle or Petřín. The park, which is one hundred years old, was founded on the original land of wine-growing homesteads. The biggest asset of this large park are partly preserved interesting views of Prague, Hradčany or Petřín Hill with the lookout tower through the plants. It especially offers unique views towards the Italian Street, which one can rarely enjoy in Prague. Remainders of original constructions have been preserved up to now: a classicist lookout tower dating to 1820’s, which was reconstructed and now serves as a restaurant, a three-sided sandstone obelisk dating back to about 1840, which is said to be a monument of a fight of two officers for a girl.
