Is segway legal in Prague? That is probably the most frequent question of all the tourists and
hotel receptionists. This is because the media spread so much information in this respect that
nobody knows for sure anymore. Let’s get this straight.
In 2016, there were first hints suggesting that segways would be banned in Prague. Why are
they banned now? It was due to the citizens complaining about hazardous rides of some
guides and their clients. Despite the fact that there were approx. 20 accidents of pedestrians
and segway riders over the past 10 years, the segways stir up unusual fear. By the end of
summer 2016, the prohibiting sings started to be manufactured, and the company had approx.
2 months to finish them. The ban took force by the end of 2016.
So, where are the places where segways are banned? Currently, the ban applies to the entire
historical centre of Prague 1, part of Prague 2, Žižkov, Prague 4 and Prague 10.
Are segways banned everywhere? No! Can you still visit interesting places on them? Yes!
Segway tours are still allowed within the territory of Prague 6. This is a beautiful territory,
approximately 2 km from the historical city centre, right over the Petřín hill. This area offers
trips to the beautiful Strahov and Břevnov monastery. The Břevnov Monastery was founded
as early as in 993, and the oldest documented Bohemian brewery is situated there, brewing
beer for more than a thousand years! Within the premises of the Strahov Monastery, founded
in the 12 th century, you can visit an amazing library, which occurred in many Hollywood
films. Prague 6 also hosts the world’s largest stadium – the Strahov stadium, Ladronka Park –
the longest illuminated in-line skating line in Prague, or old Prague estates – Spiritka,
Hybšmanka, Ladronka, and many others.
We can only conclude with one statement – Segway in Prague is not over, and it stills has a
lot to offer to the visitors.
